Casona Micaela Wineries

In keeping with the popular saying: “The grape has two heavenly flavours, as a grape and as wine.”
These treasured wines are made from grapes coming exclusively from the winery’s own vineyards; they belong to the Reisling and Albariño varieties, as these are well adapted to these limy clay soils, rich in flavours with the influence stamped by their proximity to the southern waters of the Bay of Biscay, or mar Cantábrico as it is locally known.
The winery’s spectacular surroundings are another reason to visit this place and discover its landscapes, following the numerous paths criss-crossing it and its heritage.
The Valle de Villaverde is a municipality belonging to Cantabria, located in the Bizkaia district of Las Encartaciones, to the south of Turtzioz and flanked by the municipal districts of Karrantza Haran to the west and Artzentales to the east. It lies just twenty kilometres from the coast, and in fact it is crossed by the River Agüera, which runs into the sea at the Oriñón estuary.
Until midway through the 15th century Valle de Villaverde belonged to Las Encartaciones in the domains of the Lordship of Bizkaia; it held the same rights and was entitled to vote in the Abellaneda Council Meetings. The valley was subsequently purchased by Pedro Fernández de Velasco, at which point it was no longer part of Bizkaia, but rather belonged to Cantabria. For decades it was known by the name of Villaverde de Trucios until in 2005 it recovered its traditional title of Valle de Villaverde.
