It is situated in a place called ¨sorginleku ¨( place for witches ). It was built in the 16th century, and belongs to the
classical model of ironworks.
It is said that from its fire was taken the flame which switch on the first Blast Furnace installed in Baracaldo. It is the
only ironworks in Bizkaia which has preserved in situ the mallet and the vertical wheel, so it is an exceptional
milestone to imagine the historical sceneries of the traditional basque iron and steel industry. It has been bought by
Bizkaia´s Regional Council, in order to be restored and opened to the public. Next to that we can see its tower house
and a romanic bridge from the 13th century.
Muskiz looks on the sea through Pobeña and Cobaron ; neighbourhoods with a remarkable mining past, which has a
lot of bars and restaurants and appeal a lot of visitors in the weekends and in the summer. They can also enjoy going
for a nice walk along the sea due to Itsaslur, a walk close to the cliffs which join both districts.
Its location and its marvellous views on the beach, make Nuestra Señora del Socorro chapel - placed in Pobeña- a
funny place. Although it is very simple, architectonically, a lot of sailors and fishermen of the place are very devoted
to the Virgin. Inside, a votive offering reminds us of its date of building, in 1768 by Pedro Llano, as a thanksgiving to
the Virgin of Socorro, because he had no damage from a storm in Caribe. The 8th of September they celebrate the
Socorro´s feast with procession of great tradition.
